Piqued and peaking; there’s a wound tension to PF Clang’s “Crawler” release. Their first for 2018, these tracks come in like a late frost – cool and collected.
Trippy Flute Thing is an adventure in percussive environments. A mechanized sort of industrial underbelly supports a rolling and tribal kick drum chorus that sounds like it came from an orchestra in unison, not PF Clangs’ drum machines. The flute adds another layer of atmosphere, taking the listener to smoked out jazz clubs from decades past.
Crawler truly does creep its way through an arc of tight feeling drum tonality stacked onto piqued and plucky strings. There are multiple payoffs and reveals in this title track that keep PF Clangs at the top of F-Class’s rotation for 2018.
